Twelve threatened British butterflies painted as a single index, by Lydia Hill, subtitled Going, Going, Gone.
Each butterfly is named in English and Latin: White Admiral, Black Hairstreak, Grayling, Duke of Burgundy, Large Blue, Wood White, Wall, Northern Brown Argus, High Brown Fritillary, Glanville Fritillary, Heath Fritillary and Pearl-Bordered Fritillary. The rest of the series gives each species its own print with its host plant. This one puts them side by side, which makes the scale of the list easier to take in.
The original was painted with natural inks made in her studio. The print is produced on museum-grade hemp paper, hand-signed on the front, with a stamped authenticity label on the back. Hemp grows quickly without heavy irrigation or pesticides, and the inks are water-based and non-toxic.

Lydia Hill took a First-Class BA (Hons) in Textiles at Manchester School of Art and an MA in Textiles at the Royal College of Art in 2025. She works between London and a studio in Shropshire. Her work has shown with Creatives Wings at New Textiles in Margate, at Heimtextil New Talent and the Surface Design Show, and in The World of Interiors.
