A hand-painted study of the White Admiral and the honeysuckle it breeds on, by Lydia Hill, from her Red List of British Butterflies series. Shown framed at Kingsgate Castle for the Creatives Wings project.

The White Admiral is classed as vulnerable in Britain. Honeysuckle is its sole host plant, and the butterfly favours the shaded, straggly growth found in older woodland rather than the tidy hedgerow kind, which is part of why its range has narrowed.

The original was painted with natural inks made in her studio. The print is produced on museum-grade hemp paper, hand-signed on the front, with a stamped authenticity label on the back. Hemp grows quickly without heavy irrigation or pesticides, and the inks are water-based and non-toxic.
